But tomorrow...

“But tomorrow, dawn will come the way I picture her,
barefoot and disheveled, standing outside my window
in one of the fragile cotton dresses of the poor.
She will look in at me with her thin arms extended,
offering a handful of birdsong and a small cup of light.”

He's so skeptical even in optimism, this guy William Collins...

Somehow I never really understood what's so great about poetry, especially the one that doesn't even rhyme.

Skeptical??? really?? how did you get skepticism out of this? do share with me...It would be great to have another POV on this!

It's one of my personal favs...love the beautiful way dawn is described...the words are simple and whimsically beautiful.

For someone who writes/expresses so well, i'm surprised you don't enjoy un-rhyming poetry!!

Actually, when I think of a morning with optimism, (and he calls it 'her'), I'd like to see a beautiful girl with a pretty dress, not barefoot and disheveled in a fragile cotton dress...

So I thought, he's so unsure even while dreaming that he expects only little!

I seriously don't enjoy un-rhyming poetry at all, actually, I don't enjoy poetry at all!

:) Thank you for your interpretation...interesting one that. But, what i liked most about the poem was precisely that...dawn described as raw, wild and simple, silently creeping through your window...not majestic or overpowering in her pretty looks and pretty rich dress, announcing her arrival haughtily.

But then again, maybe it's just me...I've always found the most beauty in rags than in robes :)

I'd say its more on a note of optimism, where the child even in her state of poverty has something to offer, birdsong and a cup of light, there's her inner radiance that transforms her ,making her as beautiful as the dawn that he experiences..
